Driven to contribute to the lives of others.

I chose to become a physician because I love interacting with people, and I wanted to make a positive contribution to the lives of others. Once I started my surgical rotation in medical school, I knew right away that I wanted to be a surgeon. I found it challenging and stimulating, and I enjoyed the variety of cases that were involved. But what was most appealing to me is that surgery is a very direct and immediate way of contributing to people’s lives. People come with a real need and leave with a resolution. Today, I still enjoy the challenges, I still enjoy the variety and I know no greater reward or personal satisfaction than making a positive difference for others.”

The heartfelt, person-to-person care every patient deserves.

While I am a physician and a surgeon, I am a person first and foremost, and so are my patients. I try to relate to patients personally, to put myself in their shoes and give them the attention and compassion I would want for myself or my kids.  This is an important reason behind my special interest in pediatric surgery. I love being a mother, I love my kids and I have always loved being around children. Like everyone else, children deserve excellent surgical care, and nothing is better than helping make a sick child well. And as a woman, I also have a special interest in breast surgery. Basically, I’m interested in helping people get better because I, too, am a person. What I do is a collaboration with the patient, from providing complete information to giving my heartfelt best at every turn.”
